Penrose Triangle – 2013

Penrose Triangle was a project by Blake Courter and Blake Courtney that received an art grant from Burning Man. A sinuous and climbable sculpture, it had lights embedded into the structure that came alive at night. When viewed from the correct perspective, the lights revealed a Penrose triangle, an optical illusion similar to a Mobius strip.

The structure had three cubes and three arms that were all identical and could be taken apart to be shipped across the country from Boston to Black Rock City.
Custom circuit boards were created by Damon Hyde, Dewb, and me to mount Teensy 3.0s to run the OctoWS2811 LED strips.
Dewb and I designed the wiring harness and the software integration.
