Orbitar – 2013-Ongoing

An experimental multimedia instrument that enables dancers to combine poi spinning with audio or video manipulation.

The system is composed of three parts.
The satellites are poi which contain Arduinos, radios, and sensors (accelerometers, gyros, magnetometers).
The data gloves are a way to enter digital input into the system to trigger things like different effects, color changes, or entire movements.
The satellites and gloves communicate to a computer over wifi by sending packets to a MaxMSP patch. After the data fusion occurs, the velocity and orientation data can be used to tweak parameters on different sorts of audio and video patches.
A collaboration with Kate Riegle van West and Natan Wythe.
